As a member of the database group responsibilities include all aspects of database administration from creating the databases to its maintenance. Detailed responsibilities include: creating Data Definition Language (DDL) from the data model to create the storage groups, databases, tablespaces, tables and indexes; issuing the appropriate security to administrators, developers and end users; and, generating datasets for the Image Copies essential in the recovery of databases and/or its components. Other administrative functions are: maintaining performance standards of the database by altering buffer pools and tablespace parameters due to growth; concatenating tablespaces with multiple extents; performing REORGs on tablespaces and indexes as needed; and, evaluating the SQL statements within the generated PLANS/DBRMs. Performed further tasks essential to the databases group. These tasks are: installing and configuring software for communication bridges allowing the client components to communicate with the mainframe server; partitioning tablespaces and indexes; and, migrating storage groups, databases and related components from DOLIRs mainframe to a LPAR on another shared mainframe. Additional tasks include establishing communication from desktop PC's through a server to a DB2 data warehouse using DB2 Connect ODBC and MS Access software.
